For many people, God is just a power you turn to when you are desperate. When you have tried everything else in life and you are in crisis and you have nowhere else to turn, turn to God. But if everything is okay in your life and you are not desperate, then God is not necessary.Read More›
I go to a large church here in Australia and am amazed at the perception that people have with regards to the church and money.
I once heard about someone wanting to go to the church I attend, who asked, “How much does it cost to go there?”Read More›
People often think that Christians should be perfect people. Spend a few minutes talking to almost anyone outside the Christian faith, and you are almost guaranteed to hear tons of complaints they have about Christians. As Mahatma Gandhi famously said: “I like your Christ, I do not like your Christians. Your Christians are so unlike your Christ.” True enough, just like any precious object like a diamond, when genuine diamonds exist you can be sure there will be fake ones. Let’s dive deeper into this common misconception of people about Christians—that Christians should be perfect peopleRead More›
“You’re no fun!” Haven’t we all heard that or something like it? For me, it’s usually been in response to not going to a strip club after an office Christmas party, or stopping drinking before getting drunk when at your mate’s place or at the pub. Before I came to know Jesus as my Lord and Saviour, I used to go to church just for the sake of fulfilling a chore or go with the flow of tradition. I would sing worship songs as if they were just regular songs. It was just purely ritual and empty. Almost every time God’s word was taught, I could hardly understand the message because all I had in my mind was either the food that I was going to eat or the places I would go after the mass. I knew Jesus as the man at the cross, but other than that, everything about him did not make sense to me. His name did not create a significant impact in my life back then. His name was one of the many names of the saints and apostles that I would call every time a problem or a tragedy would arrive in my life. Prayer was just my spare tyre and not my steering wheel. I didn’t understand what it meant to have a personal and authentic relationship with God. The void in my heart just kept growing as I knew there had to be something more than all those religious activities.Read More›
